MOVING PROCESS

Simple Moving Process

 

Moving is a very stressful time for everyone involved. With The Moving Men, we can take some of the burden off your shoulders by providing you with a checklist of things to do and when to get them completed. This will keep you on a schedule and keep the stress away.

 

 

 

6 to 8 weeks before moving day 

  • Create a checklist
  • Call your agent
  • Check moving companies for terms
  • Sign moving agreement
  • Keep phone numbers handy

 

4 to 6 weeks before moving day

  • Notify post office of your upcoming move along with utility companies
  • Update address with all your personal accounts like your bank and pharmacy
  • Contact your doctor, dentist, insurance company, and other professional services of your new address
  • Notify your subscriptions to newspapers and magazines of your new address
  • Update your driver's license, work, and tax documents with new address
  • Try to have a moving sale or garage sale to get rid of items you don't want to take

 

2 to 3 weeks before moving day

  • Work with movers to make sure you're on the same schedule
  • Prepare your family and household items
  • Get appraisals on your antiques
  • Dispose of flammable liquids and hazardous materials
  • Professionally clean rugs, drapes, and linens and have them professionally packed

 

1 to 2 weeks before moving day

  • Decide if you're keeping your plants or giving them away. We can't guarantee they will survive the trip.
  • Take pets to the vet to make sure they are updated on all vaccinations
  • Arrange transportation for your pets
  • Collect all items that are being cleaned and repaired
  • Return anything borrowed from friends or neighbors
  • Collect items you may have loaned out
  • Day before moving day
  • Contact your mover to finalize an last minute details
  • Work with the packers so they know what needs special attention such as fragile items
  • Marking any items that should not be packed or moved by the mover
  • Signify with your mover any crates or boxes you will need immediate access to
  • If you're doing your own packing, make sure it's ready to go before moving day
  • Collect the things you want to be packed together
  • Unplug all appliances 24 hours in advance except plasma televisions
  • Check closets, cabinets, and storage lockers for anything you may have forgotten
  • Be available for moving your appliances
